Word of the week: maa - come

In my life: It's been yet another harrowing week at work. We had a P2 incident which meant we had to drop everything and look into the issue & it's fixes. The issue itself (missing fields in some Cosmos records) was not replicable on any environment other than Production no matter what we tried and there was nothing to indicate why it had failed there. After putting in a temp fix and adding daily (manual) monitoring for the failure, we've pivoted to a hotfix to at least enable automatic backdating in case it fails again. The fix is in test and hopefully should go in on Tuesday giving us all some much-needed relief.

On the exercise front, I managed to deadlift 60kg and do a 42kg barbell back box squat this week. My trainer is trying to find the max I can go and apparently, we'll be training off the percentages of that going forward. My back and arms are super sore after all this and are only now slowly recovering.

The running shoes I bought have been great. I don't know if it's the running shoes or the videos I watched on the proper running stance, but I've shaved nearly a minute off my previous pace. Still a long way to go before I can run a 5k but seeing the run time go up each week feels immensely satisfying.

Wednesday marked yet another year of mum's passing. I've stopped bringing up this day with my dad in the past few years, and especially this year with his health. I don't know if he remembers it and doesn't bring it up too, but either way I feel it's enough that I remember her. The "what would she think of me now?" questions are still there but it's a lot less sharp. I am happy with my life, and I like to think that if she was around, she'd be happy for me too.

On Friday and Saturday, we went to watch the Race of Champions, Sydney in the evenings. I had no idea what to expect but I had a great time. The races with the Polaris RZR Pro R especially were extremely fun to watch, kind of want to drive one of these sometime. I miss watching F1, due to the time difference I can only usually catch the highlights after the race, but I'd like to find other Australian motor sports to watch if I can.

On Saturday we also went to Crow's Nest, as we wanted to see if we could get Sathya's guitar modified so that it's easier to play and get some brunch.

We first went over to Manny's where Sathya talked to the maintenance folks while I tried out all the pianos. I'm still very tempted to get one but I don't think we have the space for it at the moment and the last time I bought one I didn't play it much. We popped into an op shop, and I found a nice pair of pants to wear. Hopefully these will tide me over till I drop the rest of the weight I want to lose.

The cafe we visited this time had some unique items on their menu. Sathya ordered this absolutely brilliant Pastrami Hash, while I had the scrambled eggs & flatbread, and the coffee was pretty good too. More than made up for last week's disappointment. Crow's Nest has a great vibe, and I love that the metro makes it so easy to visit now.

Today (Sunday) we spent a quiet sleepy day at home until evening when we went to Chatswood for dinner. I've been meaning to try out some of the restaurants here and finally visited today to have some Korean food (thanks to the effect of the K-drama The Good Detective). We went to Myeongdong which had good reviews but skipped their BBQ sets to have some pan-fried spicy pork, Korean fried chicken and my usual order of a Kimchi pancake. The food was excellent, and they had a lot of side dishes. I'd definitely want to go and try the BBQ as well sometime.

On my screens:

1. ThamePo (Thai, Queer, YouTube, Completed): Ah what an excellent ending. No time skips, the boys go independent to have control over their own music and our leads are happy and domestic. Add in one sneaky reference to a previous show's boy band and a very funny end scene with the best friend and honestly, I can see why it has become one of the most well received GMMTV shows in quite some time. I loved what it had to say about life and love and success and happiness. A very solid 9/10 for me and definitely one that I can rewatch.

  1. The Good Detective (Korean, Crime, Netflix, Ongoing watch): Watched a few episodes of this and it was so good. Stopped it at episode 4 and am now rewatching it with Sathya.

The premise is that an innocent man is sent to prison on murder charges and is about to be executed. A range of people with varying motivations want to know the truth behind the crime. Will they do it in time before the convict is executed?

  2. Project Alpha (Thai, Music competition, YouTube, Ongoing watch): Picked up watching this to see how LYKN (the band playing in ThamePo) was formed. It's a reality musical show and some of the performances have been absolutely stellar. This one by William, this one by Fluke and this group performance have been on my playlist all week. It is sad that Fluke didn't get to be a part of the band and is now focusing on acting instead because he has a beautiful voice and good stage presence.

On my playlist: One of those "this person joined me as I played an instrument in public, and I was blown away by their performance" YouTube shorts popped up on my feed introducing me to Teddy Swims. He has an incredible voice especially in this song.

I lose control
When you're not next to me
I'm falling apart right in front of you, can't you see?

On my camera:

Now that we've entered autumn, the light in the evenings is very pretty (not harsh like in Summer and not gloomy like in Winter). I was waiting at the restaurant earlier this week and the reflection of the light on the building - half lit up, half not, caught my eye.

Thanks for tagging along!
